MOM AND BABY YOGA

The Mom and Babes class is designed for women in the postpartum months, beginning four to six weeks after having your baby and usually continuing until babies are crawling. The focus is on the mom, rebuilding strength, tone and flexibility, while releasing tension in those over worked areas. The class is relaxed and informal, with time for yourself, as well as attending to the usual nursing, changing and fussiness that comes with the package :) A short baby massage is included in the end to encourage bonding and playtime.

PRENATAL YOGA

The prenatal class is for women at all stages of pregnancy and will focus on strengthening the pelvic floor and leg muscles in preparation for birth.  We will learn to work with the breath as a way to encourage energy flow and stimulate relaxation. The class will also place emphasis on celebrating our changing bodies and connecting with the life growing within us!

TIME:     2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

8 WEEK SESSION BEGINS WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 20 - DECEMBER 8

YOGA FLOW, LEVEL 1

This class is a strong flow of yoga postures, designed to strengthen, tone and increase flexibility.  Each class consists of an opening meditation and breath work, followed by a series of standing and seated poses, ending with a guided relaxation.  Suitable for all levels of experience, this class will leave you feeling more relaxed and integrated.

About Mara

I first experienced yoga in University as a natural extension of my martial arts and fitness background.  My yoga teacher had me walk around the room balancing an egg on a spoon, holding it in out in front at arms length, asking me to practice bringing balance to my mind and body.  I was intrigued, and so my personal yoga journey began, initiating with a 200-hour teacher training in Atlantic Canada through Yoga Alliance.

I continued to complete my Bachelor of Commerce degree in Canada from the University of Guelph, moving on to a career in Marketing.  After five years as a Marketing and Communications specialist for a large fitness center chain in Atlantic Canada, the pull to study, travel and teach yoga was overpowering!  I decided to leave my ‘real’ job and follow my heart.

Ever since, I’ve gone on to travel Europe and learn Spanish while teaching yoga on the beaches of Spain.  I’ve also had the privilege of teaching in Ireland, Italy and France.  Throughout the summer I teach elite level hockey players in Canada how to stretch and relax.  Currently, I live with my partner and 9 month old daughter, who was born at home, in Hungary and am a Holistic Nutrition and Doula student.  I experiment in the kitchen, occasionally knit wearable items and pose as a photographer when inspiration strikes.

Yoga means union or oneness.  It is the feeling of complete and utter bliss that comes from the mind, body and soul connecting in a meaningful way.  We can access this powerful place through yoga asanas or postures, than take what we learn off the mat and into the world!
