About Us

Budapest Moms History

Budapest Moms was created by Réka Morvay in 2007 with the purpose of creating an online community for English-speakers as they go through the adventure of expecting a baby and raising a family in Hungary.

The online mailing list was soon joined by a real-life mommy-baby group, then a website and a facebook page. Over the years, the group and the mailing list gathered momentum, and more and more members joined! Both the online mailing list and the real life mommy-baby group have always been very informal, low-key, and friendly.

As the community grew, it started doing more and more ambitious things with the help of enthusiastic members, like Halloween parties and charity drives, mom2mom sales, baby signing clubs, babywearing classes, Hungarian classes and more.

In 2011, the time finally came to make the organization official, and this is when volunteers were solicited to offer their time and expertise to achieve the goals detailed in the Budapest Moms Mission Statement.

Who are we?
Réka Morvay is a psychologist, doula, childbirth educator, lactation consultant and student midwife living and working in Budapest, Hungary. She maintains a website about birth topics at http://www.budapest-doula.com and you can read about her professional services at http://www.rekamorvay.com/. She is also the founder of the Budapest Moms community. In addition to being a birth junkie, she also likes tinkering with websites and watching Doctor Who and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Rita Revy was born and raised as a Hungarian in Cleveland, Ohio. Her employment history is eclectic, including a short stint in the Cleveland tool and die industry, a longer forray into the Hungarian film industry and her favorite, before going on maternity leave, a fun-tastic job organizing ‘stag and hen’ weekends for English lads and lasses. She married a Brit boy, they decided to stay in Hungary and start a family: two daughters to date. She was the first mommy to attend Réka’s mommy-baby group way back in early 2008. She is currently helping Réka out with the Budapest Moms website as editor and content-herder. In her baby-free time she likes to practice her Axl Rose dance moves, sample Hungarian wines and delicacies, go for long walks in the Buda hills and curl up on the couch with her hubby and her latest obsession - the Danish TV crime thriller Forbrydelsen.

Andi Lustak was born in Budapest and is a Freelance Technology PR consultant when she is working and a mom of a beautiful almost 3 years old daughter. Andi studied, worked and lived in London for 9 years before relocating back to Budapest to spend a big chunk of the year in her beloved home city with her British husband. She found Reka’s baby-mommy group when she was only 4 months pregnant in 2009 and met some great friends since through this great community. She is one of the editors of the Budapest Moms website and admins of the Bp Moms facebook page and will be also sharing her insights as ‘the local insider’ on the city as well as helping out with marketing and PR efforts. Sounds like baby-free time these days means watching a lot of box sets in the evening, she and her hubby are currently into Mad Man, Homeland and can’t wait for the new seasons of True Blood and Fringe.

Marley Hood: As a Budapest mom who has benefited greatly from this supportive, helpful and fun community, I’m very pleased for the opportunity to be a part of this great organization! I have many years of experience working in the non-profit sector in Canada, from grassroots organizations to large foundations. I have also contributed as a volunteer and served on committees for various non-profits. My work experience includes sponsorship development and event management. In addition to designing the logo and website banner for Budapest Moms, I will focus on community awareness and fundraising. Originally from Canada, I’ve lived in Budapest for 6 years, and recently completed my MBA from Corvinus University. I’m a proud mom of a lovely little girl. I’ve been creating things for as long as I can remember and I am hoping my love of design will soon allow me to be a work at home mom.

Other regular contributors include Bibi Ebel, Barbara Petri, Petra Tkalčec and hopefully soon - you! Would you like to contribute posts to our expanding website? Are you an expat parent living in Hungary? Do you have your own blog? Are you an English-speaking Hungarian parent? Do you like to write? Please contact us here if you’d like to become part of the Budapest Moms blogging community.

Hello wonderful Ladies,
I am a Hungarian, living in the Capital Region of New York (Albany), born and raised in Budapest, but moved to the US 15 years ago and raising my family here. However my daughter decided to spend one year in Budapest as a junior in high-school. In order for her to be able to continue as a senior, a year later seamlessly, she is going to have to take US History. I am looking for a private tutor for her, located in Budapest for the 2012-2013 school year who is able to tutor her and prepare her for state exam here in NY in US History.
Any ideas? Advice?
Thank you
Agi Laufer
