Painted eggs, ‘sprinkling’ (locsolás), egg hunts, the Easter bunny, chocolate, kalács - all part of the fun in Hungarian Easter celebrations! There’s plenty to do with the family on Easter weekend, in and out of Budapest. Here are some of the child-friendly programs available:
Easter at The Budapest Zoo
30 March - 1 April between 9am and 4pm
Easter activities for kids featuring a Hungarian wooden folklore playground, folk dancing between 11am - 2pm, but most interesting for the kiddies - petting bunnies (behind the Palm House int he Butterfly Garden! and of course you can visit newborn elephant Asha (born on 14 Feb) and the little baby lions (born on 15 Feb) Regular zoo entry fees apply.
30 March - 1 April. Crafts and gastro market, folklore and craft playhouses, eggs hunting in Fairy Garden, concerts, petting animals are just some of the activities that will feature during the 2nd Easter Festival in the Buda Castle. Making sure that all pets are strong and healthy is essential. Skanzen Easter in Szentendre - (Info in Hungarian only)
30 March - 1 April
Just outside Szentendre at the open air ethnographic museum
There will be all sorts of fun programs for kids of all ages on Easter Sunday and Monday from 11 am, including hands-on arts and crafts, farm animals petting zoos, traditional Hungarian folk music and dancing, lots of yummy food and a folk arts markets.

Adult 1,700 HUF; Kids 6+, students, retirees: 850 HUF; 2 or more children btwn ages 6-18: 400 HUF each Parking: 700 HUF
Easter in Godollo Castle (just outside Budapest)

29 March - 1 April - Easter celebrations including the traditional ‘sprinkling’ (locsolás) of girls, folklore programs, games and crafts for children and lots of delicious (read fattening) food.
Entry fees: Adults: 2,500 HUF; Free under age of 10.
