24-hour pharmacies in Budapest

by Réka Morvay on September 12, 2010

As you have probably found out by now, in Hungary, even over-the-counter medications need to be purchased from a pharmacy, and cannot be gotten at your local drug store (a serious misnomer) or supermarket. The problem is that most pharmacies operate only during normal business hours, and if you need a prescription filled or simply want to run out and get some cough syrup in the middle of the night or on a weekend, you need to know where your nearest 24-hour pharmacy is.

Here they are:

District Name Address Phone number
III. Óbuda Gyógyszertár 1032 Bp. Vörösvári út 86. 368-6430
IV. Aranyhorgony Gyógyszertár 1043 Bp. Pozsonyi út 19. 379-3008
VI. Teréz Gyógyszertár 1067 Bp. Teréz krt. 41. 311-4439
X. Elefánt Gyógyszertár 1101 Bp. Pongrácz út 19. 431-9940
XI. Fehérvár Gyógyszertár 1117 Bp. Fehérvári út 12. 466-5891
XII. Déli Gyógyszertár 1123 Bp. Alkotás út 1/b. 355-4691
XIII. Mária Gyógyszertár 1139 Bp. Béke tér 11. 320-8006

The pharmacy inside Corvin Plaza (VIII. district) is open during weekends too! And the pharmacists there all speak English.

If you’re looking for a 24 hour pharmacy in Budapest’s 18th District, one can be found at Zsebők Zoltán Szakrendelő 1183 BP Thököly út 3. It’s located inside a large clinic, after hours just head through the main entrance and at the end of the hall make a right, at which point you should now see the pharmacy.
